New Face At The Markets09 Mar 2010

New Face at the Markets
The Boyanup and Districts Farmers’ Market is proud to announce the appointment of Terry Wooltorton as its new market manager.

Terry brings to the Market considerable organisational skills from his background in education and also a keen interest in what is the Market ethos: sustainability and fresh food.

His interest in fresh food has led him to not only have his own organic garden but also to be an active member of the newly formed Bunbury Community Garden.

Terry said “I am currently working to transform my suburban backyard into a productive fruit and vegetable garden and to retrofit our house to minimize energy and water use.“

As well as teaching in the South West and the Kimberley, Terry also spent two years living and working in Cambodia on sustainable livelihoods, human  rights, food security, ecotourism and water and sanitation projects.

Terry is a long term resident of the district having lived in Stratham for 23 years and now a resident of Bunbury. He is married with 2 adult sons.

A registered Building Sustainability Assessor and Environment and Sustainability Consultant, Terry also lectures part time at Edith Cowan University and also is completing a degree in Environmental Management.

The next Boyanup and Districts Farmers market will be held on March 28 and this will be a great opportunity for vendors and customers to meet Terry and to make suggestions for the market’s progress.

The markets are held all year round with the market bell ringing at 8 am to signal the beginning of trading, and ringing again at 12 noon to conclude trading.

“At some markets some stalls being sell out early, so it is a good idea to get there as early as possible,” said Mr McClare, Chairman of the Management Committee.

Products sold at the markets include grass fed lamb and beef , seafood, free range eggs, a great range of seasonal fruit and vegetables, including stone fruit, local cheese and olive products, baked goods, preserves to name but a few of the many different products.

People wishing to find out more about the markets are welcome to ring Terry on 0448 806 833 for more information.

February Market Roundup28 Feb 2010
February’s Boyanup Farmers’ Market, falling as it did on a long weekend, was a huge one – 36 produce stalls and 5 animal stalls and a huge crowd who came to browse shop and socialise!
Once again, the stalls were laden with fresh summer fruits and veg, gourmet delights, scrumptious baked goods, plants for the autumn garden and much more.  The only problem being “ do I have enough money on me” and “how can I get it all home!”
Returning to the Market after a short absence was Solar Fruit with their tempting range of fruit snacks, and also our seafood van, Da Silva Seafood Van laden to the gills with fresh fish and other seafood.
LA Jones Fruit had the new season’s packham pears and gala apples as well as nectarines, plums and peaches, and the crowd made short work of the sweet corn on offer at Kelli’s CornerThe Cake Ladies  added yummy sticky toffee apples to their delicious range of cakes and slices and Something Soapy added a goat’s milk soap for sensitive skin to their range of soaps and bath products.
New to the Market was a range of certified organic garlic, shallots and cucumbers from Garlic’n’Roses.
We had a very deserving winner of our raffle – our tireless worker who mans the sausage sizzle, Dorothy was thrilled to bits to take home the huge prize all donated by our generous stall holders.
Our demo at the March 28 Market is Heritage Seeds with Josie Scally.  Josie will give you all the gen on heritage seeds, including methods of saving them and preserving them.
We would like to welcome some new faces to the market.  As of March 1, Terry Wooltorton will be joining the Market management team as Market Manager.  Terry’s contact details are below.   Also Norm Chapple from the Boyanup Foundation has taken on the setting up of the Market.
Our next Market is on Sunday March 28  from 8 am to 12 noon at Boyanup Memorial Park, South West Highway, Boyanup.
